KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has declared Sept 26 (Saturday), as a public holiday to allow eligible voters to cast their ballots in the 16th state election, according to caretaker chief minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

The declaration of the public holiday is based on Section 9 of the Sabah Ordinance, said Shafie in a statement issued Friday (Sept 25).

He also urged the public to abide by standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the Sabah Election Commission (EC) and local authorities and added that Sabahans should abide by the health advisory issued by the Health Ministry.

“Avoid crowded, confined spaces and also avoid speaking in close proximity, ” he said while urging Sabahans to wash their hands frequently and wear face masks in public.

Sabah will head to its 16th state election on Saturday, where 447 candidates will compete for 73 seats across the state. - Star
