Syed Saddiq to register 'Muda' as political party today

Malaysiakini

Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has revealed his plan to have Muda registered today.
In an interview with radio station BFM 89.9 this morning, he confirmed that Muda will take shape as a new political party.
“Immediately after our interview, I will be heading to the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to register Muda as a political party.
“(It will be) Malaysia’s very first youth-led, multi-racial, multi-religious political party to fight for the interests of all Malaysians - young and old, Malay, Chinese, Indian, Iban, Kadazan.
“To fight for the interest of middle Malaysia,” Syed Saddiq said.
Anticipating “funny things” to crop up, he cautioned that any attempt to hinder the registration process could result in public backlash.
Veveonah Mosibin
“I’m very sure that the vast majority of Malaysians are well aware and they know if there are barriers placed in our way, this is a way to stop (and) hinder the progress of a legitimate political entity (and) to silence the voices of young people, like how they did it to (student) Veveonah (Mosibin) in Sabah.
“I think that will create a greater backlash,” he said.
A university student from rural Sabah, Veveonah recently made headlines after two deputy ministers wrongfully accused her of lying of having to climb a tree to take an online examination.
The former Bersatu Youth chief added that he had “personally appealed” to both Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin and Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin on Muda’s plans.
“So we hope there will be no political barriers placed,” he said.
The ROS is an entity under the Home Ministry.
Syed Saddiq also confirmed that his new party was “definitely” planning to run for election.
However, he said it was “too early” for Muda to decide whether it will align with any existing major political coalition.
“When we prove ourselves, that’s when negotiations come in,” he said.
What went wrong for Harapan?
Asked about the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government, the former Youth and Sports minister regretted how long-standing “personal disputes” had allowed political opponents to gain a foothold.
“It was the discontent, the disagreement and the continuous infighting among old politicians which never ended, which has been there for the past 20 to 30 years.
“Because of this deep mistrust, it enabled for the Sheraton Move (political coup) to happen. We didn’t deal with coalition politics well (and) we didn't deal with interpersonal relationships among party leaders well.
“We allowed for our enemies to exploit that disagreement and discontent among one another,” he said.
Citing a matter of principle, he disproved Bersatu's decision to pull out from Harapan no matter how unpopular they stood to become among the Malays.
“We should not have used that as an excuse to backstab our partners to then leave Harapan and to align ourselves with the enemies who we seek to challenge and confront,” he said. - Mkini
