Tajuddin: It's cartoonish and chaotic, best for Parliament to be dissolved

Dissolving Parliament to make way for the 15th general election would be the best solution for the nation's political conundrum, an Umno supreme council member said today.

Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said a move to dissolve Parliament would be better rather than allowing continuous party-hopping that has led to political chaos.

"Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has a choice, he can dissolve the Dewan Rakyat and the best option is to call for fresh elections so that the people can determine who will get their mandate.

"Party hopping has become cartoonish; chaotic politics. Just dissolve Parliament and let the rakyat decide," Tajuddin told Malaysiakini.

"Those who jumped (parties) there must be a reward, elected representatives can be bought and sold, what kind of politics is this?

"We want elected representatives who work, are charismatic and with integrity," Tajuddin said when asked for comments on PKR president Anwar Ibrahim's announcement earlier today that he obtained the majority support needed from MPs to form a new government.

Tajuddin challenged Anwar to prove in the Dewan Rakyat that he had enough support to form government rather than merely making an announcement.

Anwar has declined to reveal the exact number of MPs he has gathered except to stress that he had a "convincing" number that brought him "close" to a two-thirds majority.

He also teased that his majority was "much more" than six MPs.

One needs at least 148 MPs to have a two-thirds majority in the 222-seat Dewan Rakyat. - Mkini
