Verdict of Ku Nan's RM2m corruption case on Nov 17

Former federal territories minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor will know on Nov 17 the verdict of his RM2 million corruption case.

The Kuala Lumpur High Court fixed the decision today following the end of oral submissions by parties in the defence stage of the graft case.

“I require time to deliver my decision. I propose to have the full written judgment when I deliver the decision.

I strive to deliver the decision by then (the date of verdict). If I am constrained, I will inform the parties (beforehand).

“Nov 17 is for the decision,” judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan said, adding that the verdict date is tentative subject to any changes if required.

Today was set for the second day of oral submissions in the defence stage of the case, with DPP Julia Ibrahim having delivered arguments this morning and this afternoon.

The first day of oral submissions (conducted at the end of the defence stage of trial) was on Sept 11.

Tengku Adnan was charged in his capacity as a public servant, namely as the then federal territories minister, with accepting for himself RM2 million from Chai Kin Kong, who is also the director of Aset Kayamas Sdn Bhd, via a Hong Leong Islamic Bank cheque belonging to Aset Kayamas.

The cheque was later deposited into the CIMB Bank account of Tadmansori Holdings Sdn Bhd, in which the accused had an interest when it was alleged that Aset Kayamas had a connection with his official duties.

The offence was purportedly committed at the Pusat Bandar Damansara branch of CIMB Bank Bhd on June 14, 2016.

Tengku Adnan was charged under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which specifies a jail term of up to two years, fine, or both, on conviction.

On Oct 14 last year, the Kuala Lumpur High Court ordered the Putrajaya MP to enter his defence on the charge, upon ruling that the prosecution succeeded in establishing a prima facie case.

Tengku Adnan then chose to testify under oath from the witness stand when the defence stage of proceedings commenced on Jan 17. He completed giving evidence on March 5. - Mkini
