The Kuala Lumpur High Court has postponed Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's corruption hearing pending the result of his Covid-19 test.
The Umno president's rapid antigen test had shown negative for the virus.
However, his lawyer Hamidi Mohd Noh informed the court that his client underwent a swab test at the Tawakal Medical Centre in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.
"The first test was negative. But the result for the swab test is still pending.
"Therefore, I ask the court to postpone the hearing until tomorrow," he said, adding that the result is expected to be out at 5pm.
Deputy public prosecutor Raja Rozela Raja Toran did not object, following which, High Court judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah said the proceedings slated for today and tomorrow would be postponed.
He added that Zahid's test result would determine if the matter would continue to be heard next Monday.
It is believed the Umno president underwent the Covid-19 test as a precautionary measure following his return from Sabah, where he was campaigning for BN in the upcoming state polls.
Zahid, who was the former deputy premier, has claimed trial to a total of 47 charges.
Twelve of which are for criminal breach of trust (CBT), eight for bribery and 27 for money-laundering involving tens of millions of ringgit belonging to Yayasan Akalbudi. - Mkini
