After Sabah win, Annuar suggests PAS rep's appointment into state assembly

After winning the Sabah state election, leaders of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) component parties have suggested that a PAS representative be appointed into either the state assembly or new Sabah cabinet.

BN secretary-general Annuar Musa said he believed at least one representative from PAS should make the list of the six appointed assemblypersons.

"I believe that a PAS representative will fill one of the six spots for appointed assemblypersons.

"Maybe two other seats will be filled by Umno, and the remaining three from PBS, Star and Bersatu," he tweeted yesterday.

The Ketereh MP and federal cabinet minister said this in response to an article by Sinar Harian quoting a Bersatu leader who suggested the same move.

Annuar also expressed hope to see female representatives among those to be appointed into the state assembly.

The Sabah state assembly has a total of 73 seats that are filled by representatives through an election. The state constitution allows its chief minister to request the Sabah governor to add six more nominated assemblypersons.

GRS, a loose coalition that consists of BN, Perikatan Nasional and PBS, secured victory in the state election which concluded last Saturday. The component parties bagged a total of 38 seats to form a simple majority government.

Sabah Bersatu chief Hajiji Mohd Noor was appointed the new chief minister.

In the Sinar Harian article, Terengganu Bersatu chief Razali Idris suggested that the new Sabah government appoint representatives from other GRS parties like PAS into its cabinet.

According to the report, Razali suggested the move as a show of appreciation to PAS for making sacrifices by not fielding candidates in the election.

"May GRS continue to serve the rakyat and keep its words by quickly executing its election manifesto," he was quoted as saying by the Malay daily.  - Mkini
