Covid-19 (Jan 10): 2,433 new cases, Kelantan breaks three digits

 


COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 2,433 new Covid-19 cases today, marking the sixth consecutive day where daily infections are above 2,000.

The bulk of the new cases were in Selangor with more than 700.

The states and territories of Sabah, Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Negeri Sembilan and Kelantan also recorded three-digit gains in new infections.

Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, in a statement today, also reported 1,277 new recoveries.

However, the recoveries are significantly surpassed by the new infections, pushing the number of patients under treatment higher.

There are now 27,332 Covid-19 patients but only 28,674 available beds.

On the current trajectory, the government will run out of beds for Covid-19 patients in a couple of days.

The government have constantly revised the number of available beds upwards but they new beds being added are not in full-fledged Covid-19 hospitals which are near their limits.

Instead, convention centres and stadiums are being converted to hold Covid-19 patients.

Leading indicators:

Active cases: 27,332 ↑ (1,147 more than the previous day)

Patients in ICU: 171  (Six less than the previous day)

Intubated patients: 76 (Six less than the previous day)

Deaths: 9 ↑ (Four more than the previous day)
