PETALING JAYA: The EMCO at two workers’ quarters in Johor will be extended for another 14 days, Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.
These are the Kejora Juara workers’ quarters at Bukit Pasir, Muar and the Westlite 1 and Westlite 2 workers’ quarters at Senai.
The EMCO at the both localities were scheduled to end on Jan 15.
However, Ismail said the order would be extended until Jan 29 as there were still active cases with high infectivity rates.
Meanwhile, the EMCO at two other localities involving prisons and detention centres have been lifted.
The EMCO affecting the Kluang prison and staff quarters and also the Segitiga Arena Hall both in Johor will end as scheduled today.
Ismail said active cases there had shown a decreasing trend.
On the number of arrests yesterday, Ismail said police arrested 389 people over movement control order-related offences.
He said 371 of them were issued compounds and 18 were remanded.
Among the offences were flouting physical-distancing rules, taking part in activities at entertainment centres, failure to wear face masks and failure to provide materials for contact tracing or registration, among others.
Ismail also said police caught 138 illegal immigrants, six smugglers (tekong) and seized a boat and 13 vehicles under Ops Benteng. Enforcement officers set up 276 roadblocks yesterday. - FMT
