Flood rescuer drowned after falling off boat from exhaustion

The body of a man who was helping to evacuate flood victims in Kampung Manjor using a boat last night was found today at 8.30am.

Mohammad Hakimin Rahim, 20, was found by family members where he reportedly fell off the boat after he fainted from fatigue.

Kuala Krai fire and rescue station (BBP) chief Muhammad Rizwan Ar-Rafee Parsimin, said a rescue call was received at 10.07pm and five personnel were dispatched.

“The search and rescue (SAR) operation was paused at 12.31am because it was dark, raining and floodwaters were rising.

“When we were preparing to recommence the SAR operation this morning, we got the news that the victim was found by relatives,” he said at BBP Kuala Krai today.

The body was taken away by the police to Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital, Kuala Krai for the next step.

The victim, who was paddling, was said to have been exhausted as he had been helping to send villagers to the temporary shelter since morning and suffered cramps because of the cold weather.
