Floods: TNB shuts down 14 substations in Dungun

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has temporarily shut down the power supply to 14 electricity substations in Bandar Al Muktafi Billah Shah, Dungun, which has affected 849 consumers.

TNB (Kelantan & Terengganu) Strategy & Regulatory Division general manager, Mustaphakamal Yaacob said the shutdown was necessary as floodwater levels at the substations have risen and this could endanger public safety.

"Supplies will be restored after the floodwaters recede and maintenance work have been carried out at the affected substations," he said when contacted by Bernama today.

However, temporary relief shelters in the area will not be affected by this temporary shutdown, he said adding that for the meantime, the areas affected will get their electricity supplies via mobile generator sets.

He also advised consumers living in the flood-hit areas to always obey the instructions given by the authorities should they be ordered to evacuate and to contact TNB Careline at 15454 if any TNB installation has shifted or given way.

Consumers were also reminded to be careful when using electrical equipment if their premises are flooded and to avoid touching electrical appliances or switches with wet and damp hands as this could cause electric shock.

"Before leaving for the relief centres, turn off the main switch and after the floods, house owners should seek the services of a wiring contractor registered with the Energy Commission to inspect the wiring in their flooded premises," he added.
