Halimah becomes fifth minister to test positive for Covid-19

 

COVID-19 | National Unity Minister Halimah Mohamed Sadique has become the fifth minister to be tested positive for Covid-19.

The ministry, in a statement, announced that Halimah took a Covid-19 test yesterday and was informed of the result by the Health Ministry today.

"Following that, Halimah Mohamed Sadique will undergo treatment and quarantine and is closely monitored by the Health Ministry in Johor Bahru," the statement said.

Throughout the duration of the treatment, Halimah will monitor and ensure that all matters pertaining to the ministry run smoothly.

The statement added that Halimah thanked all parties who wished her well and she apologised to everyone for any problem that may arise due to her being quarantined for the infection.

Her Facebook page showed that between Jan 10 and Jan 12, she has been on a flood relief programme around Kota Tinggi which involved visiting temporary evacuation centres, police station, fire and rescue station, and handing out contributions to families.

Earlier today, former law minister and Padang Rengas MP Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz also tested positive for the coronavirus.

News of the duo contracting Covid-19 is far from shocking as in recent days, several politicians have been found to be positive with Covid-19.

Last Saturday, PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad was also infected with the coronavirus after coming into close contact with a party member from Kelantan.

Prior to that, a number of politicians have tested positive for Covid-19 including Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Zahidi Zainul Abidin, Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin, Economic Affairs Minister Mustapa Mohamed, Women, Family, and Community Development Minister Rina Harun and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri. - Mkini
