PETALING JAYA: Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan has denied a report that he had been nominated as Muafakat Nasional’s prime ministerial candidate for the 15th general election.
An online portal recently reported that Mohamad, better known as Tok Mat, was listed as Muafakat Nasional’s candidate for the prime minister’s post after receiving the highest number of votes at a recent Umno Supreme Council meeting.
“Please be informed that this is fake news,” he said in a Facebook post.
“Fake news spreads faster than the Covid-19 virus. Be careful.”

In a post on Friday, the online portal described Tok Mat as the most popular choice among Umno members to be the country’s “number one leader”.
Stating that Tok Mat is seen as an eloquent Umno leader who is untainted by court cases, the portal praised the former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar for being approachable and friendly with the rakyat.
The portal also said Tok Mat proved to be a capable leader for Umno during the several months he temporarily replaced party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who was on leave from December 2018 to June 2019. - FMT
