PPR rentals reduced by 50 per cent for 3 months

The waiver, which will see PPR tenants paying half of the RM120 monthly rent from now until March, was to mark the Federal Territories Day celebrations, said Tan Sri Annuar Musa. - NSTP/MOHD FADLI HAMZAH.

KUALA LUMPUR: All tenants of the People's Housing Project's (PPR) low cost flats and business premises managed by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will have 50 per cent of their monthly rentals waived for the next three months.

The waiver, which will see PPR tenants paying half of the RM120 monthly rent from now until March, was to mark the Federal Territories Day celebrations, said Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

The Federal Territories Minister said the waiver was also aimed at easing the financial burden of tenants who are affected by the Movement Control Order brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

"So PPR tenants will only have to pay RM60 rental until March. We understand the predicament of many traders and PPR tenants. They were previously given nine months free rent at business premises and the PPR units under DBKL.

"Meanwhile, the concept of free trading licenses will continue until March to lift their financial pressure. At the same time, we hope to reduce Covid-19 cases so our lives will be back to normal gradually," he said.

The good news, he said, was agreed following discussions with Mayor Datuk Mahadi Che Ngah today.

Annuar said this when appearing as a guest on TV1's "Bicara Naratif" programme tonight.

As part of the month long celebrations, Annuar said there would be a lighting up programme, the giving away of food baskets to the needy, the distribution of rice vouchers as well as the launching of the first of its kind Rumah Prihatin, an affordable home programme for young couples priced at RM200,000 and below. - NST
