Senator Yaakob Sapari has become the latest addition to the list of politicians who have contracted Covid-19.
Yaakob, who is a former Selangor state executive councillor, tested positive after taking an Antigen Rapid Test Kit (RTK-Ag) test today, a day before he was scheduled to deliver aid to flood victims in Kuantan, according to a source.
"He is supposed to go visit and deliver aid to flood victims in Kuantan tomorrow (Jan 15) with his team.
"Before embarking on the trip, he voluntarily took the test to ensure that he is clear of Covid-19.
"Unfortunately, he's the only one who tested positive while his team members tested negative," said the source.
It was learned that Yaakob, who was taken aback by the result, later took a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test and is waiting for the results which should return within 48 hours.
Those who were in close contact with him were asked to self-quarantine until Yaakob obtained his PCR test result.
The source said from Friday until Monday (Jan 8 to Jan 11), he joined three programs attended by Yaakob.
Yaakob's Facebook page shows that yesterday (Jan 13), he had a charity program with Masdiana Mohamad, who is the wife of Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari.
Malaysiakini has attempted to reach Yaakob for confirmation and more details.
Earlier today, Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah was also reported to be receiving treatment at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre in Petaling Jaya after he was found to be positive for Covid-19.
In recent days, other politicians who tested positive for Covid-19 were Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Zahidi Zainul Abidin, Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin, Economic Affairs Minister Mustapa Mohamed, and the Women, Family, and Community Development Minister Rina Harun. - Mkini
