Covid-19 situation becoming critical, warns health DG

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said people should stick strictly to Covid-19 SOPs.

KUALA LUMPUR: Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has described the spread of Covid-19 in the country as becoming critical again and every individual is required to continue complying with the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

In a Twitter post, he said the people needed to return to practising the 3Cs, which is avoiding crowded places, confined spaces and close conversation.

“They must also practise the 3Ws — frequent washing of hands, wearing of face masks in public places and heed the warning on avoiding handshakes.

“Seek immediate treatment if one has the symptoms,” he said.

In a separate tweet, Noor Hisham said the number of new positive Covid-19 cases today is 2,881, compared to 3,788 yesterday.

He added that Selangor recorded the highest number of new infections, with 759 cases, followed by Sarawak (445) and Kelantan (442). Perlis was the only state to have zero transmissions today.

Noor Hisham said there were 2,642 recovery cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 380,442 cases while the number of active cases now stands at 29,227.

He said 337 cases were treated at intensive care wards with 176 requiring respiratory assistance. Fifteen people have died, taking the death toll to 1,521.

He added that 14 new clusters were also identified today involving four clusters each in the community, workplace and education sector as well as two religious clusters.

The community clusters are Sungai Nirai in Sarawak, Umas in Sabah, Seri Jati in Melaka and Jalan Sepat in Perak, while the workplace clusters are Jalan Garuda in Johor, Jalan Sungai Sembilang in Selangor, Jalan Kilang Dua in Sabah, and Durin in Sarawak.

The religious clusters involve Sebatu and Air Budi in Melaka; while Lestari Perdana Tujuh in Selangor, Saujana in Terengganu, Persiaran Sinaran Ilmu in Johor (higher education cluster) and Long Jegan in Sarawak (MOE education institution) are linked to clusters in the education sector. - FMT
