YOURSAY | Flurry of lawsuits signal Najib’s attempt for political comeback

YOURSAY | ‘If he’s serious about vindication, he should sue the DOJ as well.’

Najib sues Tommy Thomas, govt over 'wrongful prosecution'

Malaysia Bharu: Is former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak barking up the wrong tree for whatever he has cooking in his mind?

He was already convicted in the SRC International case, the charges which allegedly took shape even before ex-AG Mohamed Apandi Ali exonerated him, and Apandi was neither judge nor jury.

What about the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and Sarawak Report that had implicated him in the 1MDB scam? Did he clear his name?

If he is serious about vindicating himself from his predicament, a good place to start would be the US DOJ (Department of Justice) that had identified him as Malaysian Official 1 and repatriated almost RM5 billion in recovered 1MDB loot.

A good part of the evidence that incriminated him is believed to have emerged from foreign jurisdictions starting with the red dot down south.

While Najib and Umno are in denial, globally there is overwhelming evidence of wrongdoing concerning 1MDB that has not been addressed.

Najib’s tirade against former attorney-general Tommy Thomas seems nothing more than an attempt to delude the naive and gullible from the elephant in the room for nothing more than political expediency.

Dr Raman Letchumanan: Can the rakyat sue the former AG who cleared Najib of any wrongdoing in 1MDB, while waving incriminating evidence in public?

Can the rakyat sue the present AG for not objecting to overseas leave applications of Najib & Co? Can the rakyat sue the present AG for withdrawing high-profile cases, even when incriminating evidence seems overwhelming?

Finally, who do we sue for making a mockery of the justice system in Malaysia?

RedWolf4463: Now the convicted criminal intimidates the prosecuting party for convicting him. What next? Sue the judge and the whole judicial system?

While you are at it, why not sue the judiciary for RM2.6 billion for convicting you? Or is he trying to intimidate and harass the prosecution and the judges who are hearing the pending cases so that they will be reluctant to go after him.

It is like when he lodged a police report against the Inland Revenue Board (IRB), claiming that a tax suit launched against him was politically motivated.

This is the display of maruah Melayu at its finest.

Constitutional Supremacy: What audacity in Najib’s move, his conviction alone is already enough proof. The whole world knows of his involvement in 1MDB. The whole scandal had caused the country to lose some RM50 billion.

Why is Najib making these moves after the new PM took over? Najib, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Rosmah Mansor, Muhammad Shafee Abdullah are allowed to leave the country as the AG has not objected to their applications.

Could the AG kindly advise why the DPP (deputy public prosecutor) did not object? The rakyat would like to know.

Oriole: This is interesting. Malicious prosecution, huh?

So this case of suing an official acting on behalf of the government should open the door for many more lawsuits. Can you imagine the number of people and lawsuits that should be allowed to be heard if this is the case.

Also, can the people of Malaysia sue Najib as the chair of 1MDB for the alleged loss of public money?

But another interesting point is his choice of suing Tommy Thomas and not Dr Mahathir Mohamad or Anwar Ibrahim or anyone else. Something to do with ethnicity, as usual?

YellowRusa5552: Now with Umno back in power and also with a compliant attorney-general, I won’t be surprised if the unthinkable really happens. The way Najib behaves and talks clearly indicates that an end solution is in the works for the besieged ex-PM.

Yes, in this country, wonders and miracles do happen every so often. Not for ordinary folks, but for a select few.

Najib sues ex-AG and publisher for Altantuya murder reference

Vijay47: My guess is that this has nothing to do with Thomas though he is the target of the foolhardy exercise.

With his popularity waning, Najib must pull out another rabbit from his hat to show his declining number of supporters that he still matters, that he remains a “Bugis warrior” even if his once-trusty keris has turned rusty.

Thomas will do absolutely nothing. He will just sit there, smiling, waiting for Najib to tighten the noose he placed around his own neck. The ex-PM can sue, but the defendant will defend.

Who knows what Thomas has up his sleeve. Facts and evidence long thought lost or destroyed may suddenly appear, Sirul Azhar Umar might report for court duty, and Altantuya Shaariibuu’s ghost will slowly arise, to the utter, shrieking terror of a husband and wife.

BobbyO: By suing Tommy, Najib is opening a can of worms.

Now that he is suing Tommy, all that had transpired during the trial can be reopened. All that was said and done during the trial can be rehashed and presented through the media for all to read. The last thing Najib needs is more negative publicity after the 1MDB trial.

Or is it that these cases will never reach the trial stage, but rather they are there in the public domain to try and convince the gullible that he is innocent of all the crimes that he was charged with or even assumed to have committed.

Goldie12345: What a joke. Najib claims Tommy was partisan. If he was partisan then what were all the attorneys-general before him if not partisan?

This is especially true of Apandi, who cleared Najib of all charges related to 1MDB even when US authorities implicated him.

Now he’s crying persecution, what a hypocrite. - Mkini
