Covid-19 (Nov 26): 5,501 cases, R-naught still at 0.99

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 5,501 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,614,480.

They were surpassed by a total of 6,664 Covid-19 patients who recovered today. This is expected to help reduce the number of active cases.

The national R-naught has stayed at 0.99 despite a small increase in cases yesterday, indicating that new infections are slowing down.

The number of states and territories with an R-naught above 1.00 has decreased from 11 to nine, which are Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Labuan, Putrajaya, Kedah, Malacca, Pahang, and Perak.

An R-naught of more than 1.00 suggests that the spread of Covid-19 was accelerating.

  • Patients in ICU: 519
  • Intubated: 267

As of today, the number of Covid-19 patients, including suspected ones, in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 4.2 percent lower compared to a week ago.

Those who require intubation have also declined by 0.4 percent from a week ago.

Nationally, the number of hospital admissions in the last seven days has declined by 3.2 percent compared to the preceding week.

However, hospital admissions in some states are on the rise, particularly in Penang (+17.6 percent) during the same period.

Beginning Oct 9, the Health Ministry will only publish today's breakdown of new cases by states after midnight on its CovidNow portal.

The breakdown by states for yesterday (Nov 25), when 6,144 new cases were reported, is:

Selangor (1,650)
Johor (605)
Sabah (513)
Kelantan (511)
Kuala Lumpur (452)
Kedah (442)
Pahang (426)
Malacca (291)
Perak (280)
Penang (263)
Terengganu (233)
Negeri Sembilan (180)
Sarawak (171)
Perlis (46)
Putrajaya (43)
Labuan (38)

Clusters

To date, 236 Covid-19 clusters are still active, including seven new clusters reported today.

The ongoing clusters have fallen by 4.1 percent from the 246 active clusters a week ago.

Details of the clusters are expected to be updated on the Health Ministry's CovidNow website. - Mkini
