Covid-19 (Nov 12): 6,517 cases, highest since Oct 22

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 6,517 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,535,338.

The fresh infections today is the highest in 21 days, since October 22.

This is the third consecutive day where new cases are above 6,000.

The R-naught value, or infectivity rate, also climbed to 1.0 yesterday, signalling that the recovery has stalled.

A value of under 1.0 means the spread of Covid-19 is slowing down while a higher value means it is accelerating.

Nationally, the number of hospital admissions in the last seven days have declined by 1.3 percent compared to the preceding week.

However, hospital admissions in some states are on the rise, particularly in Kuala Lumpur (+45.3 percent), Malacca (+31.8 percent), Negeri Sembilan (+19.7 percent) and Perak (+12.7 percent) during the same period.

Beginning Oct 9, the Health Ministry will only publish today's breakdown of new cases by states after midnight on its CovidNow portal.

The breakdown by states for yesterday (Nov 11), where 6,323 new cases were reported, is as follow:

Selangor (1,568)
Kelantan (678)
Johor (649)
Sabah (579)
Sarawak (409)
Pahang (403)
Kedah (351)
Kuala Lumpur (339)
Penang (276)
Negeri Sembilan (275)
Perak (246)
Terengganu (223)
Malacca (158)
Putrajaya (84)
Perlis (60)
Labuan (25)

Based on the breakdown yesterday, several states are seeing the highest number of new infections in weeks.

The new infections in Putrajaya yesterday was the highest since Aug 7 while fresh infections in Negeri Sembilan and Pahang were the highest since Sept 13 and Oct 12 respectively.

Kelantan has also seen an elevated number of new cases, recording the second-highest number of fresh infections for three consecutive days.
