A debate on the cabotage policy between Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng is scheduled to be aired live on television and several online platforms at 9.30pm tomorrow (Nov 2).
This was confirmed by DAP's Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching, who was tasked by Lim to coordinate the debate.
"It should go on for about one hour. On cabotage issue only," she told Malaysiakini.
It is understood both Wee and Lim will be present at TV3's studio in Sri Pentas, Selangor, tomorrow night.
The debate will also be streamed live by Astro Awani and 8TV, for TV viewers and on online platforms, including YouTube and Facebook.
Both Wee and Lim's offices confirmed the event when contacted by Malaysiakini.
On Sept 30, Wee and Lim argued in Parliament over the cabotage policy on ships engaged in the repairs of undersea internet cables.
During the argument, Wee challenged Lim to a debate on the matter, which the latter agreed to immediately.
Tech giants have written to the government multiple times to restore the Pakatan Harapan-era exemption to expedite the repair of internet cables.
Wee, however, maintained his decision to reinstate the cabotage, saying it would help the local shipping industry to develop, but the tech giants raised concerns of a monopoly. - Mkini
