KUALA LUMPUR: The national unity ministry has given an assurance that it would probe claims that the Melaka government had given state allocations only to those with “bin” in their names.

Deputy national unity minister Wan Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, in a brief reply at the Dewan Rakyat, said: “We will probe.”

He was replying to Mohamad Sabu (PH-Kota Raja) who claimed that Melaka state leaders had said that those without “bin” were not given these funds by the state government.

“Will the ministry probe this? This will worsen racial unity (in the country),” he told the Dewan Rakyat.

Wan Fayhsal also said the present laws to deal with hate speech, among others, under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, were adequate.

“They will be probed under this Act,” he said, adding that due to that, new laws were not needed to preserve racial relations.

He was replying to P Prabakaran (PH-Batu) who asked the ministry if a Race Relations Bill would be tabled in Parliament to improve race relations in Malaysia.

The Sedition Act can also be used against those found creating racial tension in the country, Wan Fayhsal added. - FMT
