PAS sees a silver lining in the Malacca polls despite failing to win any seats after deciding to contest under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) banner.
"The seats contested by PAS showed an encouraging increase of votes (for the party)," said PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man in a Facebook post.
"Thank you to PN supporters. We have done our best. May Allah reward our efforts and sacrifices," he added.
Tuan Ibrahim (above), who is also the environment and water minister, congratulated the winners and bid them well in carrying out their duties.
BN, comprising Umno, MCA, and MIC, won a landslide in the Malacca polls yesterday.
BN captured 21 seats with Umno contributing 18, MCA two, and MIC one, giving the coalition a two-thirds majority in the 28-member state assembly.
Prior to the election, Umno lobbied PAS for cooperation but PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang decided to snub Umno and stick with PN.
In Malacca, PN is a coalition comprising Bersatu, PAS, and Gerakan. Bersatu managed to pick up two seats in the Malacca polls but its allies were wiped out.
An Umno-PAS cooperation remains the popular option among the grassroots but for now, Abdul Hadi is not showing signs that he will change direction.
Some PAS members even went against Abdul Hadi's directive and supported Umno over Bersatu.
Meanwhile, Pakatan Harapan, which won the Malacca polls in 2018, suffered a major setback, only retaining a third of the 15 seats it previously won.
DAP retained four out of its eight seats, PKR lost all three, while Amanah kept one of two incumbent seats.
They also failed to retake two seats which Bersatu won for Harapan in 2018 prior to exiting the coalition. - Mkini
