PETALING JAYA: Thick clouds of smoke engulfed the sky of Kuala Lumpur due to a huge fire in Segambut this evening.
It is learnt that a large auto parts shop was ablaze.
The incident occurred when the road was congested with vehicles after working hours.
According to private worker Salmi Said, the thick cloud of smoke could be seen from Sentul.
In a statement, the Kuala Lumpur fire and rescue department operations task force centre said the fire involved a 40×100 ft, half cut auto parts shop called Suzuka Autoparts in Jalan Kg Pasir in Taman Segambut.
“Almost 90% of the shop was burnt down,” operations commander fire superintendent Muhammad Ridhwan Kamarulzaman said.
He said there were no casualties reported so far, adding the efforts to put out the fire are still ongoing.
He said they received an emergency call at 5.50pm, before deploying its force to the scene of the incident.
Eighty-three firefighters from various teams were deployed, involving eight fire stations – Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Wangsa Maju, Jinjang, Sri Hartamas, Hang Tuah, Titiwangsa, Sentul and Seputeh. - FMT
