Following the nomination of Ismail Sabri Yaakob as BN’s prime ministerial candidate in the upcoming 15th general election, Umno supreme council member Noh Omar revealed that there was no more competition between the camps in the party.
The unanimous decision of the council in naming Ismail shows that there is unity in Umno, Noh (above) said.
“With this announcement, there is no uncertainty. There is no Putrajaya or PWTC cluster - it only shows that unity in Umno exists.
“We pray that BN will win again in the next GE, and InsyaAllah (God willing) Bera MP (Ismail Sabri) will continue to be the prime minister,” the Selangor Umno chairperson said at a programme in Bera, Pahang, today.
Ismail Sabri was also present at the event.
The Umno supreme council announced on April 14 that Ismail Sabri will be its poster boy for the next general election.
The decision came amidst speculations over his fate in the general election, especially in terms of his premiership.
Previously there were two factions competing to chart the course of the party’s future, with one group being labelled as the "court cluster" and another as the "minister cluster".
The "court cluster" refers to a faction of Umno leaders facing graft cases who were not appointed into the government.
Meanwhile, the "minister cluster" refers to another Umno faction comprising leaders who were appointed to the government and are friendly toward Bersatu, Umno's splinter party.
Both Umno and Bersatu are part of the federal government, but the latter is the dominant force. - Mkini
