Not true crime on the rise in Johor, say police

Johor police said they had launched various operations to curb crime in the state following the border reopening and the ongoing festive season.

JOHOR BAHRU: Police have debunked a social media post claiming that the crime rate in Johor is going up due to the reopening of the Malaysia-Singapore border.

Johor criminal investigation department chief Shahurinain Jais said current figures on crime in the state had shown the opposite.

He said the crime rate index for the first three months of the year had shown a decreasing trend compared to last year, with cases down by 22.16% or 339 cases, or an average of 11 cases per day.

He also said the property crime rate went down by 22.55% while violent crime was down by 20.54%.

The rate of cases solved in the state was 44%, he added.

“Overall, the crime rate in Johor is still under control, and the CID has launched various operations to curb vice, gambling and illegal entertainment activities in the state following the border reopening and the ongoing festive season,” Shahurinain said in a statement.

“This is to ensure Johor is crime-free and safe for domestic and foreign tourists,” he added. - FMT
