Jewish Trivia : The Hebrew ‘alav ha-shalom’ or 'peace be upon him'

Here is some jewish trivia :

In the Jewish religion they pay due regard to the dead Jewish prophets.

Whenever the orthodox Jews happen to mention the name of any of their dead prophets they will say ‘alav ha-shalom’ in Hebrew which means “Peace be upon him”.

In arabic the equivalent is alayhi wa salam.

The earliest sources of this Hebrew expression ‘alav ha-shalom’ are found in Jewish homiletics (midrashim) which were written centuries before Islam.

It became a tradition for the Jewish scribes to leave the acronym 'AH' after the names of certain prophets.

In midrashic writing acronyms were rarely explained and it was expected the reader would know what they stood for.

The traditional understanding has always been that 'AH' was an abbreviation of alav ha-shalom (Hebrew) which means 'peace be upon him'.

In arabic it will be 'alayhi wa salam'.

The Hebrew ‘alav ha-shalom’ is another example of  Jewish beliefs.

The views expressed are those of the writer and do not necessarily reflect those of MMKtT.
