'Nasi ganja by helicopter' suspect to be charged in Ipoh

The suspect who is responsible for landing a helicopter at Padang Ipoh in order to pick up the famed nasi ganja will be charged.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Abd Jalil Hassan said cops have submitted the investigation papers over the July 2021 incident and received instructions from the state prosecution director's office to proceed with the charge.

The suspect, who the police have yet to name, will be charged under Rule 77(2) of the Civil Aviation Regulations 2017 for failing to abide by the approved flight plan.

Jalil said the helicopter was supposed to land at an aerodrome based on the flight plan but had instead deviated and landed at Padang Ipoh, which is a stone's throw away from the restaurant serving nasi ganja.

"The suspect will be charged at the Ipoh Magistrate's Court in Perak on May 9.

"If convicted, the suspect faces a fine of not more than RM50,000 or imprisonment of not more than three years or both," he said in a statement.

The helicopter reportedly picked up 36 packs of nasi ganja for a customer based in Kuala Lumpur.

The owner of the helicopter was reportedly KL-Kuala Selangor Expressway (Latar) managing director Mohamed Raffe Chekku. - Mkini
