PSM shut out of electoral pact with PH

PETALING JAYA: Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) has been shut out of an electoral pact with Pakatan Harapan (PH) as the party’s request to be allocated a seat had been denied.

The party said the PH decision was conveyed in a letter today. “Without a single seat given, we understand that PH does not desire an electoral pact with PSM,” the statement said.

PH’s rejection had come despite assurance from PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli on Friday that seats had been allocated for PSM and Muda.

The PSM leadership is holding an emergency meeting tonight and a national committee meeting tomorrow to decide if the party will contest the general election on Nov 19.

PSM had asked to be allowed to contest the Sungai Siput seat, where the party’s popular chairman Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj had been elected in 2008.

If the request for Sungai Siput was denied, the party would accept any parliamentary seat and two state seats, the statement said.
