Ismail denies claim RM620bil in govt expenditure not recorded

Former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob says the total value of the eight stimulus packages during the pandemic amounted to RM530 billion.

PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has denied a claim that RM620 billion in government expenditure was not recorded in the Treasury between 2020 and this year.

Ismail said the claim, concerning stimulus packages offered by the government, was not true and that all government expenditure has been recorded in financial statements.

“The total value of eight stimulus packages amounted to RM530 billion, most of which did not involve government spending.

“The government’s direct expenditure was only RM110 billion and that allocation had been approved unanimously by Parliament,” he said on Twitter.

Ismail was referring to a tweet by @mohayusba, who alleged that RM620 billion was not recorded in government financial statements during the various lockdowns and Emergency at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The user also claimed that this was the reason why Ismail and his predecessor, Muhyiddin Yassin, “did not want anyone else to be prime minister”. - FMT
