A police inspector in charge of investigating an alleged rape incident involving a 16-year-old victim has been detained over allegations of also raping her during questioning.
Inspector-general of police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani was quoted by Malay daily Harian Metro as confirming the arrest and detention of the officer but declined further comments, citing an ongoing investigation.
Harian Metro reported that the girl had on Dec 31 lodged a police report against the investigating officer from a district police station near Alor Setar, Kedah, where she went to have her statement recorded over the original rape claims against her stepfather.
According to the newspaper, the police officer was accused of raping the victim at around 6.30pm on Dec 28 after he requested to inspect her private parts, supposedly as part of the investigation process.
“The victim was sitting on a chair and the officer asked her to spread her legs to assist the inspection,” said a source.
The source reportedly said the girl was then made to undress and lie down on a bed in the investigating room where she was allegedly raped.
Further, the source said the victim was released after about 30 minutes on the bed but not before being informed that the investigation of her original rape claims was still ongoing.
“Following that, the victim lodged a police report on the (second) rape incident, three days after it happened, and she had her statement recorded.
“The victim has been taken to the hospital for a physical examination, and a team of police personnel from the forensic unit had found stains believed to be semen on the bedsheet and pillow case,” said the source. - Mkini
