GEORGE TOWN: An uncle of T Nhaveen today gave the High Court an account of how he found his nephew slumped in the backseat of a car on a field at Minden Heights, near here, bleeding profusely.
D Karunagaran, 41, said he was speechless when he saw Nhaveen.
“When I saw ‘Boy’ (Nhaveen), I was speechless. I cried. I wanted to bring him to a hospital,” he said during his testimony before Justice Radzi Hamid.
Karunagaran had testified on Friday that an unknown man had reached out to Nhaveen’s mother, demanding that they “claim” him from Minden Heights Road 7.
Continuing his testimony today, Karunagaran said that when he arrived, he saw Nhaveen slumped in a car driven by S Gopinaath, 30, one of the five accused in the case.
He said he told Gopinaath to take Nhaveen to hospital, while he followed them on his motorcycle.
He also said he reported the incident to the police beat base at Penang Hospital before Nhaveen was admitted to the emergency ward.
The prosecution then called activist Arun Dorasamy to the stand.
Asked why he took an interest in the case, Arun said he decided to get involved after reading articles published by FMT and Malaysiakini which claimed that Nhaveen was a ‘04’ gang member.
“That irritated me, and a lot of Indians (who were following the case) asked what (Hindu NGO) Agamam Ani and the Hindu Service Centre could do,” he said.
“That was when I took the initiative to reach out to the families (of Nhaveen and his friend, T Previin).”
Arun is the leader of Hindu Agaman Ani Malaysia and the Hindu Service Centre.
His testimony will continue when proceedings resume tomorrow.
Deputy public prosecutors Khairul Anuar Abdul Halim, Azhar Hamzah, Ayu Rohaiza Khazali and Shahrezal Shukri prosecuted.
Naran Singh, S Yagoo and Maanveer Singh Dhillon represented the accused, while Sukhindarpal Singh held a watching brief for the Bar Council.
Five people are accused of murdering Nhaveen. They are Gopinaath, J Ragesuthan, 22, S Gokulan, 22, and two others who were juveniles when the alleged offence took place.
They are accused of committing the offence at a park along Jalan Bunga Raya between 11pm and midnight on June 9, 2017.
The five are also charged with committing grievous assault on Previin near the Karpal Singh Learning Centre in Bukit Gelugor on the same night. - FMT
