3 Malacca boarding schools with Covid clusters operating normally

Three boarding secondary schools in Malacca with active Covid-19 clusters are operating normally, even though there are 226 positive cases among the students.

State Health director Dr Rusdi Abd Rahman said the three education clusters are the Jalan Selandar Cluster, Jalan Sempang 20 Jasin 2 Cluster, and Lorong Bukit Piatu 15 2 Cluster.

“Jalan Selandar Cluster involves the Sekolah Berasrama Penuh Integrasi (SBPI) Selandar, with 64 cases; Jalan Sempang 20 Jasin 2 Cluster involves the Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) Tun Ghaffar Baba (72 cases); and Lorong Bukit Piatu 15 2 involves Sekolah Menengah Teknik Melaka (90 cases).

“All students have been sent home to undergo quarantine, to ensure the situation is more controlled.

“It (Covid-19) was detected after a student, experiencing some symptoms, took a screening test. Tests were extended to other students as more and more of them tested positive for the infection,” Rusdi told reporters at Op Raya in Malacca today.

He said the clusters are expected to end on May 10, and the situation in all schools is under control, adding that the state Health Department will continue to monitor the situation in other schools.

He said the state Education Department was also informed about the latest situation involving the schools, and measures to prevent and control Covid-19 will be carried out continuously, with the help and cooperation of various agencies.

“Although cases are under control and there is no significant increase, we also want to advise everyone in the state, and those who return to their hometowns to celebrate (Aidilfitri), to look after their health and take preventive measures such as wearing face masks in crowded areas, to avoid the spread of Covid-19,” he added.
