PETALING JAYA: In his first Aidilfitri address as prime minister, Anwar Ibrahim has called on the people to strengthen unity by building stronger ties with each other.
Anwar said in his televised address that Malaysians should take advantage of the Aidilfitri festivities beginning tomorrow to visit one another.
He also spoke on the importance of promoting mercy and compassion in Malaysia’s pursuit of development and progress.
“On the part of the unity government, we want to restore dignity and integrity. We will not accept any form of corruption,” he said.
Since his appointment as prime minister, Anwar has vowed to rid the country of corruption, warning that severe action will be taken against corrupt officials in the public service.
He also thanked all civil servants serving in and out of the country and the security forces for ensuring the nation’s safety for their tireless service.
“May their efforts give us renewed strength (as a nation),” he said.
