Candidate for auditor-general submitted to King

A candidate to be the new auditor-general has been proposed by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim following the retirement of Nik Azman Nik Abdul Majid.

SUNGAI PETANI: The government has proposed a candidate for appointment as auditor-general, following the retirement of Nik Azman Nik Abdul Majid on Feb 23.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said he had submitted a name to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

“I sent (a name) two weeks ago. There are procedures, (it has to go) to Agong…but all already done,” he said at an event here.

The post of auditor-general is a constitutional position, set by the Federal Constitution. The appointment is made by the King on the advice of the prime minister and after consultation with the Conference of Rulers.

The auditor-general’s principal task is to audit and report on the accounts of the federal government and state governments.

Prior to his retirement, Nik Azman had said there were two pending issues: one involving klia2 (now KLIA Terminal 2) and the other being the unresolved matter of land compensation for the Penang second bridge.

On Feb 16, he told reporters that the compensation matter was left open-ended, as it was a complicated issue and may take a long time to resolve, Sinar Harian reported. - FMT
