Sixty-three Chinese independent high schools (SPMC) nationwide will receive an allocation totalling RM15.75 million from the Finance Ministry next month.
According to Transport Minister Anthony Loke, he received the application from Dong Zong president Tan Tai Kim on Feb 28 for special funding for private Chinese schools.
"I would like to announce that this application has been approved by Prime Minister and Finance Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
"This allocation will be transferred to the schools two weeks after the Aidilfitri public holiday," Loke, who is DAP secretary-general, said in a statement today.
He said that each SPMC will receive RM250,000 and the handover ceremony is tentatively scheduled for May 5 in Kuala Lumpur.
The allocation for SPMC was started in 2019 under the Pakatan Harapan administration. The federal government at that time allocated RM12 million, and the figures went up to RM15 million in 2020 and remained the same amount annually until 2022.
However, as the SPMC are not part of the national education system, the allocation does not come from the Education Ministry but as a special grant from the Finance Ministry. - Mkini
