Door still open for KJ to join Bersatu, says info chief

Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin was sacked in January for breaching party discipline in GE15.

PETALING JAYA: Bersatu is waiting for former Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin’s decision on its offer to join the party following his sacking from Umno.

According to Utusan Malaysia, Bersatu information chief Razali Idris said party president Muhyiddin Yassin invited Khairy to join them in a meeting at the former prime minister’s home.

The meeting took place shortly after Khairy was sacked by Umno in January.

Razali said the two discussed Khairy’s future and the political situation in the country.

“In that meeting, Muhyiddin offered Khairy a chance to stand on a Bersatu ticket in the coming state elections if he was still interested in a career in politics,” he was quoted as saying.

However, he said this would be subject to Khairy joining the party first. The former health minister would also have to accept whatever seat was given to him.

Razali said Khairy, who served as science, technology and innovation minister in Muhyiddin’s Cabinet, asked for some time to make a decision.

He also said he would welcome Khairy into Bersatu with open arms, adding that the party was also willing to accept other former Umno leaders who were sacked by the party.

In January, Khairy, along with former Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar, was sacked for breaching party discipline during the 15th general election.

The party also suspended former vice-president and Sembrong MP Hishammuddin Hussein, former information chief Shahril Hamdan, Maulizan Bujang and Salim Sharif for six years.

Subsequently, Khairy revealed that he received numerous offers from different parties, but has since opted to become a radio DJ.

Negeri Sembilan Bersatu chief Eddin Syazlee Shith has said the party would offer Khairy the menteri besar’s post if he contested in the state election under the party’s ticket. - FMT
