Fahmi: KLSP 2040 postponement allows DBKL to seek people's views

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil hopes that the postponement of the gazetting of the Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2040 (KLSP 2040) will provide space for the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to listen and respond to the people's views.

The Lembah Pantai MP said the move was important to ensure that Kuala Lumpur's policy planning considers the voices of various parties, including the city’s residents' associations.

"This is important to ensure sustainable development and that no community feels that their voice is ignored… I think previously the people of Kuala Lumpur felt that they were not involved in the discussion process of Kuala Lumpur's development.

"I also think it is fair for DBKL to respond to residents' associations and NGOs (regarding the proposal) who told me they had provided their views but received no feedback," he said after taking part in the making of bubur lambuk organised by Yayasan TM at the Kampung Kerinchi People's Housing Project today.

Fahmi said he would examine the plan, in his capacity as an MP in Kuala Lumpur, to ensure that it is developed by taking into account the humane element in line with Madani principles introduced by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Fahmi said the engagement process involving all Kuala Lumpur MPs was underway, adding that one of the items on his wish list is to maintain some residential areas from being turned into commercial areas.

Yesterday, Anwar announced the postponement of the gazetting of KLSP 2040 until May 31 to allow DBKL to hold further engagement sessions with stakeholders to explain and get appropriate feedback.

In another development, Fahmi said he would discuss with DBKL and the Local Government Development Ministry to help resolve the ‘chronic’ issue of faulty lifts in private housing areas not under DBKL jurisdiction such as low-cost flats.
