Fahmi: Sarawak premier to propose state J-kom director

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the director of the Sarawak branch of the Communications Department (J-kom) will be chosen by state Premier Abang Johari Openg.

Fahmi (above) told the Borneo Post claims that Santubong PKR division chief Ahmad Nazib Johari has been appointed to the position were not true.

"J-kom has informed me that Ahmad Nazib is not J-kom Sarawak director," said Fahmi.

"I am also made to understand that the Sarawak premier has proposed a name for the post, which will be used."

On April 7, Sarawak PKR chief Roland Engan wrote a Facebook post congratulating Ahmad Nazib over his appointment as Sarawak J-kom director.

As of 10am this morning, that post was still accessible.

J-kom is a department under the Prime Minister's Department. It was formed in 2021 as a successor to the controversial Special Affairs Department (Jasa).

Roland's claim had earned a rebuke from Sarawak cabinet minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who said that if the claims were true, it would prove Putrajaya's "insensitivity" and lack of consultation.

Abdul Karim explained that Ahmad Nazib had previously run in elections against the ruling party in Sarawak and against Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof in 2016.

"Whether or not (Ahmad Nazib) has repented, (we don't know). If he is a person who will divide the people, then don't appoint him (as state J-kom director).

"I don't know whether Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim knows about this, but the new J-kom director-general Mohammad Agus Yusoff recently paid a courtesy call on the Sarawak premier and now this thing (is allegedly) happening.

"So, we question your (Putrajaya) sincerity towards Sarawak," said Abdul Karim. - Mkini
