PETALING JAYA: Two hotels in Melaka were ordered to cease offering their Ramadan buffets for hygienic reasons following an operation conducted by the state health department.
Melaka health director Dr Rusdi Abd Rahman said a total of 44 hotels were inspected under the Op Ramadan since last week, Bernama reported.
“A total of 46 compounds amounting to RM18,750 were issued to these hotels, with two of them ordered (to) close their (Ramadan buffet),” he was quoted as saying.
The two hotels were found to have violated the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009 for attire worn by food handlers.
Rusdi also said that a total of 14 factories, including meat-processing factories and ice-making factories as well as chicken farms were also inspected.
He said 52 compounds totalling RM22,000 were issued under Section 32B of the Food Hygiene Regulations (PPKM) 2009.
He added that the health department also carried out checks at 897 premises in three districts and found the level of cleanliness of the premises to be satisfactory.
According to Rusdi, although no compounds were issued to traders at the Ramadan bazaars during the first week of the fasting month, they were reminded to comply with the rules.
He said only a handful of traders committed minor offences such as not wearing an apron or the right headgear, wearing rings and keeping long fingernails. - FMT
