Kedah MB: I'll sit by runway with binoculars, eat laksa at Lima

Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said he will continue to attend federal government events, despite allegedly being barred from them.

This includes the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2023 (Lima 2023) next month, which he vowed to attend even as a public visitor.

Sanusi (above) joked that he would sit by the Langkawi airport runway while eating laksa from a nearby hawker stall to watch the exhibition.

“As such, even if I am not officially invited, I will still attend the event.

“I will take a pair of binoculars, buy a folding table, and sit by the airport runway’s fence to watch the exhibition.

“There are hawkers selling laksa at the end of the airport runway, so I can get to watch the exhibition from outside while enjoying laksa,” he was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times today after chairing the Kedah state executive council meeting at Wisma Darul Aman.

He claimed that as Kedah’s menteri besar and the Langkawi Development Authority (Lada) chairperson, preparations have already been made for him to attend Lima 2023.

He has also been invited to the exhibition and had his claims of being banned quashed by Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari.

Adly told the Dewan Negara earlier this week that Sanusi was not banned and was invited to attend next month’s exhibition.

The deputy minister added that Sanusi was also invited to Lima 2023’s launch in Kuala Lumpur recently and was present at the event.

Waiting for official invitation

Pending an official invitation, Sanusi maintained his previous claim that the cabinet has barred him from the event.

“After I made a fuss over the restrictions imposed on the Kedah menteri besar, it seems they are extending the invitation.

“However, I will still wait for the official invitation since a cabinet decision can only be cancelled by a new cabinet decision over the same matter,” he said.

Sanusi previously claimed his alleged barring was because he was accused of leaking “government secrets”.

He claimed the matter was revealed to him by a senior government official in Kedah, who showed the menteri besar a copy of the cabinet decision to bar him from federal government functions.

According to Sanusi, the issue purportedly stemmed from what he said during a sermon in Sungai Besar, Selangor recently, where he spoke about Prime Minister cum Finance Minister Anwar Ibrahim delivering a presentation for the Finance Ministry himself instead of the Treasury secretary-general. - Mkini
