A Malacca Perikatan Nasional (PN) representative has slammed the "unnecessary" appointment of 10 deputy state executive councillors by the state government.
According to Bersatu’s Sungai Udang assemblyperson Dr Mohd Aleef Yusof, the move would cost "huge financial implications" for the state, and burden the state administration with higher management costs.
"The government should prioritise the rakyat, and not run a pro-representative administration which requires more allocation for the latter, than the former.
"I'm surprised why there is a need for these (deputy exco) posts, as the existing exco positions are sufficient to run a small state like Malacca," he said in a statement today.
It was reported that executive council members now dominate the relatively small Malacca state legislature, following the naming of 10 representatives as deputy exco members.
A total of 26 state assemblypersons of the 28-member legislature are part of the new ruling coalition. After the executive council appointments, only five government backbenchers remain. There are only two opposition assemblypersons.
Elaborating, Aleef questioned whether the appointment of the 10 deputy exco members will make the state administration more efficient.
"Will the appointments solve all the problems in the state? Are the exco members that incompetent that deputies are needed?"
Aleef further claimed the people do not welcome the appointments, as they would rather have the state funds used to solve their grievances.
He added that he also turned down an offer to join the state coalition government as he rather provide check and balance as part of the opposition.
