Muda: Answer on joining Harapan first, seat allocation talks later

Muda hopes to sort out issues surrounding its application to join Pakatan Harapan before thinking about seat allocations for the forthcoming state elections.

Its president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said his party is still awaiting an answer from Harapan on its application to join the coalition.

"The core issue is Muda joining Harapan, which we applied for last year, way before the 15th general election.

"That issue needs to be solved first, and then seat allocation matters can be attended to later," Syed Saddiq (above) told reporters after attending a forum titled "AUKU: What is the Ending?" at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) last night. AUKU is an acronym for the University and University Colleges Act (UUCA).

Also present at the forum as panellists were PAS Youth exco member Nazrul Nasir and political activist Farhan Khairuddin.

According to Syed Saddiq, he has met with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Muda's application to join Harapan.

"I was given a chance to discuss this matter during a second meeting with the prime minister, and he assured me that it would be discussed by the Harapan presidential council.

"So we wait for their decision."

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke

Last September, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke confirmed that the Harapan presidential council has received Muda's application to become part of the coalition, and said it would be discussed.

However, a decision has yet to be made despite Muda sending four letters to the coalition seeking an answer on the matter.

Last month, Syed Saddiq reiterated his party's stance to join Harapan, saying the call is due to Muda looking for positions in the government.

“We stood by our principles and we are loyal. We stood by Anwar Ibrahim prior to the election, during the election, after the election and until today.

“We are not expecting posts - if we talk about positions. But it’s about being able to be part of the decision-making in policies and deciding the future of our beloved country,” Syed Saddiq was quoted as saying. - Mkini
