The three states governed by PAS are expected to dissolve their respective legislative assemblies in late June to pave the way for the looming state polls, said party vice-president Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah.
The aforementioned states are Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.
The three other states under Pakatan Harapan – Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan – which are due to hold their state elections this year, had also agreed to dissolve their legislative assemblies in June, Amar added.
He was reported by New Straits Times as saying that Kelantan had already decided to dissolve the state assembly at the end of June.
“And I was told the date for the dissolution for the five states will take place in stages but all will take place in June," he was quoted as saying by the English daily today.
Amar was speaking to reporters today after attending an Aidilfitri open house hosted by Kelantan Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob in Kampung Alor Pasir, Wakaf Bharu.
Elaborating on the matter, the Kelantan deputy menteri besar said that the elections would take place in July, if all six states dissolved their state assemblies.
Amar, who is also the state PAS deputy chief, revealed that the state governments were making necessary preparations to face the elections.
In addition, he said Kelantan PAS had shortlisted its candidates but the final decision lies with Ahmad.
On the distribution of seats, PAS’ preliminary position for the upcoming Kelantan state election is that the party will defend all seats it won in 2018.
Eight seats won by BN during the 2018 election will be distributed to Bersatu, Amar said.
According to Utusan Malaysia, this position was the starting point in discussions between his party and Bersatu.
During the 2018 election, PAS won 37 Kelantan legislative assembly seats while BN won eight.
However, BN currently only has seven seats because Air Lanas assemblyperson Mustapa Mohamed defected to Bersatu. - Mkini
