Permatang Pauh MP gives statement to cops over alleged anti-non-Muslim remarks

Permatang Pauh Member of Parliament Muhammad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan has given his statement to police over investigations into his alleged inflammatory statements against non-Muslims.

Muhammad Fawwaz (above) said that he gave his statement at the North-East District police headquarters at 3pm last Friday.

“The issue is under police investigation. I have given my statement so let the police investigate. Insya-Allah, there’s nothing to it.

“I do not want to comment any further as the case is under investigation. I can’t even remember when the posting was made and when it was taken down by my Facebook administrator.

“There’s nothing to this issue, actually. It was deliberately raised. It is not a new issue,” Muhammad Fawwaz said when contacted today.

Yesterday, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution said the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) have opened investigation papers on statements allegedly issued by two MPs deemed prejudiced against non-Muslims.

Besides Muhammad Fawwaz, who is Penang PAS Youth chief, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang is also being investigated.

Both MPs are being investigated under Section 505 (C) of the Penal Code for issuing statements with intent to incite and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities.

In a Facebook post in January, Muhammad Fawwaz was alleged to have claimed that infidels were working towards bringing down Islam.

However, not long after that, he issued a statement apologising for the post, saying that it was uploaded by his Facebook administrator and not himself, while also hoping that the issue would not blow over as the post had been taken down.
