PN to hold talks with govt on equal allocations for MPs soon

Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said PN has picked three leaders to represent it during the discussions on allocations for opposition MPs.

PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional will hold talks with deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof in the near future on allocations for opposition MPs, says PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

Tuan Ibrahim said PN has selected three MPs to represent it in the discussions. They are opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin, Kota Bharu MP Takiyuddin Hassan and Putrajaya MP Radzi Jidin.

“Negotiations will be held soon. We don’t know the actual amount of allocations (to be given), but the prime minister has informed us that opposition MPs will receive an equal amount as that of government MPs.

“We would like to see this proven, as well as the conditions set out,” he said in Kota Bharu yesterday, according to Berita Harian.

Tuan Ibrahim hoped the allocations could be channelled immediately so that opposition MPs could provide assistance to the people, especially during the month of Ramadan.

He also said he expected only one round of negotiations to take place.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has said that he supports giving equal allocations to all MPs, but negotiations with the opposition bloc must take place first.

He had proposed that the government’s chief whip and the relevant minister take charge of negotiations with the opposition on the matter.

In response, PAS MP Ahmad Fadhli Shaari and think tank Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs said negotiations were not needed as equal allocations had been promised in Pakatan Harapan’s manifesto in the run-up to the general election. - FMT
