Police probing duo who recorded, published alleged sex-in-car video

Police are investigating two individuals who recorded and published the 23-second viral video of a young couple allegedly having sex in a car in Johor.

Seri Alam district police chief Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the probe includes a claim that the individuals posed as police personnel when they accosted the couple.

"We are still investigating the claim and the case from all angles before we submit our investigation papers to the deputy public prosecutor for decision," Sohaimi said in a text message to Malaysiakini.

He was asked whether the police are also probing the people behind the viral video, including the allegation that they had identified themselves as cops to the couple, aged 22 and 17.

According to Sohaimi, police have summoned the people allegedly responsible for taking the video to facilitate the investigation.

He added that police expect to propose for them to be charged in court, but did not elaborate.

"We have recorded their statements. We will propose (to the deputy public prosecutor) the appropriate charges," said Sohaimi.

‘Gross indecency’

On April 6, police detained the couple over a viral video clip which depicted them in a compromising position in a car at a parking lot in Johor.

Sohaimi previously said the alleged incident in the video was believed to have taken place at 3.03pm on March 29, at a parking lot in Taman Kota Masai, Pasir Gudang.

The couple spent a night in detention and the police obtained a two-day remand order on April 7 to probe them under Section 377D of the Penal Code for "gross indecency".

However, according to Oriental Daily, they were released on the afternoon of April 7.

The couple then approached Tebrau MP and lawyer Jimmy Puah for assistance, claiming that they were accosted by people posing as police personnel.

In a statement yesterday, Puah said the men had allegedly threatened the couple and demanded to see their identity cards.

"They followed the young couple after they did not heed their threats and fled the scene.

"The couple were followed until they were near the Taman Pasir Putih police station (in Pasir Gudang)," Puah reportedly said. - Mkini
