Dr M’s critics in cahoots with the corrupt, says Hadi

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said Dr Mahathir Mohamad should ignore detractors and critics whom he described as ‘drowning in ambition’.

PETALING JAYA: Abdul Hadi Awang, the president of PAS, has repeated his controversial claim linking graft to non-Muslims and non-Malays in backing Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s “Malay Proclamation”.

In a Facebook post, Hadi said PAS was backing Mahathir’s initiative to unite Malay leaders, scholars, political parties and NGOs.

He urged Mahathir to ignore those who were “drowning in ambition” which caused them to attack successful Malay politicians, academics and economists.

In what appeared to be a veiled jab at Mahathir’s detractors, Hadi said this group was also in cahoots with wealthy non-Muslims and non-Malays who were “givers and takers” of bribes.

“They are colluding with extremists who are against Islam and the Malays, as well as the media, to influence the Malays,” he said.

Last week Hadi signed the Malay Proclamation to signify his support of Mahathir’s call for the Malays to unite and “save” the community.

In August last year, Hadi stirred controversy when he fingered non-Muslims and non-Bumiputeras as being at the root of corruption. He had also claimed that the majority of those involved in ruining the country’s politics and economy, were non-Muslims and non-Bumiputeras.

The claim led to 28 police reports being filed against him, and a police investigation for incitement. - FMT
