106 undocumented migrants nabbed in raid at KL wholesale market

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 106 undocumented migrants were detained following a raid at the Kuala Lumpur wholesale market.

The raid, codenamed Ops Taring Nyah II, was conducted jointly by the police's General Operations Force (GOF) and Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) as well as the Immigration Department at about 4.30am on Saturday (Oct 28).

GOF Central Brigade commander Senior Asst Comm Zulkifli Jonit said the raiding team detained 19 Bangladeshis, 28 Indonesians, 46 Myanmar nationals, and 13 Indian nationals during the raid.

"They failed to produce any valid identification documents,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Oct 28).

The illegal migrants cooperated, and there were no scuffles, he said.

"Those detained have been handed over to the Immigration Department.

"They were detained for various offences including under Section 6(3) and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959," he added.

SAC Zulkifli said the GOF will continue with such operations from time to time.

"We urge the public to supply information on suspicious activities or the presence of illegal immigrants in their respective areas.

"Our priority is to ensure the safety and security of the people," he said. - Star
