PARLIAMENT | Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli has returned to work after undergoing a heart stent placement procedure recently.
The Pandan MP was present in the august house today to deliver his ministry’s winding-up speech on the Supply Bill 2024.
Rafizi took the opportunity to remind his colleagues in the august house to go for regular heart health checkups.
“The risk isn’t just one that affects ministers but is based on lifestyles, especially high cholesterol.
“I have a record of high cholesterol for 20 years and that will definitely cause problems to the heart,” he said.
Rafizi suffered a heart attack two weeks ago, on Oct 16, and was admitted to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) where he underwent a heart stent placement procedure.
MPs from both the government and opposition bloc, such as Howard Lee (Harapan-Ipoh Timor) and Awang Hashim (PN-Pendang) praised the minister for his quick recovery.
Awang added that he was grateful that Rafizi has returned and that the “country needs us all (lawmakers).”
He later quipped that he was being very polite when addressing Rafizi today.
Rafizi then responded: “For the record, Pendang is always close to my heart and has always been polite”. - Mkini
