Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim recorded his highest appreciation for the Treasury staff who are preparing the national budget, economic report and fiscal outlook.
Describing them as extraordinary and dedicated, he revealed that some of the staff were forced to make sacrifices in order to complete the work.
“Some of them didn’t even go home, some postponed their plans to visit an ailing father or celebrate a child’s birthday. That’s the sacrifice they had to make to finish the reports.
“All those reports will not be successfully done without the hard work and cooperation from the entire Treasury machinery, including the security team,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.
Anwar, who is also the finance minister, was speaking to reporters after inspecting the final Budget 2024 preparations at the Finance Ministry in Putrajaya.
“Alhamdulillah, I would like to express my gratitude for the extraordinary dedication shown by the Treasury team,” he said.

Anwar was welcomed by chief secretary to the government Mohd Zuki Ali, the two deputy finance ministers Ahmad Maslan and Steven Sim as well as Treasury secretary-general Johan Mahmood Merican.
He also posed for a group picture with the Finance Ministry personnel involved in the Budget 2024 preparations before signing the top secret document which will be tabled in Parliament tomorrow.
Prior to this, Anwar said that the Health Ministry and the Education Ministry would continue to receive the largest allocations in the Budget 2024.
Asked if the Budget 2024 would bring joy to the people, he said: “This is our collective responsibility.” - Mkini
