Zahid warns Umno members against attending pro-Najib rally

PETALING JAYA: 

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has warned party members against attending the planned rally in solidarity with former prime minister Najib Razak in Putrajaya tomorrow.

Zahid said Umno members must comply with the guidance provided by the party and avoid any official involvement.

“We hope there will be no official participation by organisers from any division or branch,” he told reporters after an event at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in Bangi, Berita Harian reported.

When asked whether action would be taken against party members who attend the gathering, Zahid briefly said they would be doing so “at their own risk”.

Yesterday, Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh said he would attend the rally, despite the party’s decision not to join the gathering in adherence to a statement issued by Istana Negara last Friday.

Pokok Sena Umno chief Farhan Ahmad also said he and members of the division would be joining the rally.

He said there was nothing wrong with any group gathering to demonstrate solidarity with Najib, and urged the rally’s participants to remain focussed on its original purpose. - FMT
